Just curious, since this is what Nintendo is naming their newest system. Supposedly their pronunciation is "we."
Yeah, I guess that makes sense when you think of how we say Hawaii.
The above link is an artist interpretation of a possible board meeting scenario where they decided to go with the name "Wii" for the new Nintendo console.
Looks pretty straightforward to me. IPA for "we" is /wi/. If the vowel is supposed to be long, /wii/ looks like a perfectly reasonable spelling.
Straightforward if you know what "IPA" is I guess.
