How are you doin' on that cake? You'll beat our household record if it lasts any longer than about 36 hours (oh wait, it already has!).

In other news, a point of clarification:
The hematocrit measures the percent of whole blood that is composed of red blood cells. Normal ranges for women are 36.1-44.3% and for men are 40.7-50.3%. In order to donate, one must have a 38%, which can therefore be frustratingly difficult for women. I will give it my best shot again tomorrow, but am not promising anything above a 37.

Suck on some rebar. That will up the iron count. Or have we determined that the hematocrit has, in actual fact, nothing to do with iron?

Mmmmm. Rebar. I don't know why they don't put that on the list of foods to eat when low on iron. I also think they should add Frosted Shredded MiniWheats, which have 90% of your daily value of iron and taste a lot better than red meat. This is the second time now that, after eating them for every meal the day before, I successfully reached that lofty goal of 38 (that's right--I gave blood today!), so I swear by them now.

Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, protein structures with 4 subunits and a heme group containing the iron atom where oxygen is bound (or unbound). So by measuring the number and/or size of red blood cells, you are measuring the amount of iron is in the blood, and therefore the oxygen-transporting potential.

I'd like to state that there are very little foodstuff items that taste better than meat (my favorite food is Salmon, followed by more meat, followed by more meat, followed by everything else). The closest is cheese, and only because it tastes soo good when paired with meat.

Speaking of which, I highly suggest BK's Quad Stacker (or the triple/double stacker for those who are less manly than I).
